WP THEATER is the nation’s oldest and largest theater company dedicated to developing, producing and promoting the work of Women+ theater artists at every stage in their careers. For nearly four decades we have served as leaders at the forefront of a global movement towards gender parity, and the example we set and the artists we have fostered have grown into a robust and thriving community of Women+ writers, directors, and producers in theater and beyond.

HEIDI THOMAS INITIATIVE WP THEATER LAB

The artistic heart of WP Theater lies in the Lab: a two-year residency for playwrights, directors and producers. Selected through a highly competitive process, the Lab provides its members with a vital professional network, entrepreneurial and leadership training, rehearsal space, and most significantly, tangible opportunities for the development and production of bold new work for the stage. In addition to developing their own unique work, the Lab residency culminates in the Pipeline Festival, a biennial reading series of five new plays written, directed and produced by the Lab.

The application portal for the 2026-2028 Lab will open January 12, 2026. Application deadline is February 20, 2026 at 11:59 pm ET.
